Fuel the Fire Within: The Power of a Spark

Hey Reader!

We LOVE that you're here!

Happy February, friends!

Our Sparks Series begins this month! The Sparks Series is a storytelling series that honors the people who shape us, and the people who are the spark for others. Some episodes, like Mariah’s episode, released this week, are rooted in reflection and gratitude, highlighting the mentors, leaders, and quiet champions who helped light the way. Other episodes, like our March episode, center on individuals who embody the spark...those whose presence, leadership, and heart ignite growth and possibility in their communities. Whether we’re honoring the sparks behind the scenes or spotlighting someone who is the spark, this series exists to celebrate impact, connection, and the power of people who help others rise.

This month’s Sparks feature is centered on the sparks in Mariah’s life. Below, she shares a personal letter of gratitude, reflecting on the people who helped shape her journey and the leadership lessons they left behind:

Leaders aren’t born.
They’re shaped.

Shaped by experiences. By people. By moments that stretch us, challenge us, and quietly change us.

That belief is at the heart of why Sparks exists.

A spark is the person who sees something in you before you see it yourself.

The one who reminds you of your strength when you forget.
The one who becomes the wind beneath your wings when you’re still learning how to fly.
The one who doesn’t disappear when the storm comes—but stands steady beside you through it.

I’m in a season of deep gratitude for my sparks.

Because success looks different to me now.
It’s no longer about titles or recognition.
It’s about how I treat people.
How I show up.
How hard I work when no one is watching.
The forgiveness I extend.
And the courage it takes to be authentic in a world that constantly pressures us to be anything but ourselves.

My sparks saw my worth before I did. They helped me recognize my gifts. They taught me to cherish my uniqueness instead of sanding it down to fit someone else’s mold.

And that’s the leadership lesson.

Leadership isn’t about being the brightest flame in the room.
It’s about being the spark that helps someone else ignite.

Because of those sparks, my flame burns today. A flame meant to lift others. Ignite others. And help others find their way through the storm, too.

With deep gratitude,
Mariah

Did you know SoulFire also partners with organizations?

At different points in the year, leaders pause, not to start over, but to take stock. To ask what’s working, where their teams are feeling stretched, and how to lead in a way that’s both sustainable and human.

Beyond coaching and community, SoulFire partners with organizations to support leaders and teams through leadership training, executive coaching, operational efficiency strategies, and culture-building programs. Our work is designed to strengthen both people and performance—because the healthiest organizations know those two things are deeply connected.

If you’re in a season of growth, change, or recalibration, and feel ready to invest in stronger leadership and a healthier workplace, we’d love to start that conversation.

Hey Reader! We are so glad you are here! Soul on Fire Spotlight: Jill Wesbecher This month, we’re celebrating Jill Wesbecher, a woman whose fifty years in retail management, and lifelong commitment to people, show us that leadership isn’t confined to titles or offices. It lives in the everyday moments. Jill learned early, growing up on a farm, that hard work and smart thinking go hand in hand. Those lessons shaped her career, including a defining moment in 1995 when a Sam’s Club member...

Hey Reader! We are so glad you are here! Sparks of Clarity: The Slow Reveal By Amy Thompson As I was finally finishing a puzzle my husband gave me over a year ago, I slowly realized that life is often like a puzzle. (Yes, it took me more than a year to complete the entire puzzle and to be honest a few pieces are still missing having been lost along the way.) So many life lessons were revealed as the picture slowly emerged. Just starting, even if it was overwhelming, was critical. How many...
